Crimes of opportunity
A crime of opportunity is a crime committed without planning, and when the offender sees he has the chance to commit the act at that moment. Such acts may involve little or no premeditation.

Although officers patrol your neighborhood to deter crimes, residents constitute the first line of defense against crimes of opportunity.
